Alzatea verticillata is a small flowering tree and the only species in the genus Alzatea and the family Alzateaceae. It is native to the Neotropics, occurring in moist submontane forests from Costa Rica and Panama in Central America to Peru and Bolivia in South America.

Description

Alzatea verticillata is found in the moist submontane forests of Central and South America. Its distribution includes regions in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. This species is part of the family Alzateaceae and is the only member of the genus Alzatea. It was first described in 1798 by Ruiz & Pavón.
