Sagina saginoides (L.) H.Karst., known as Alpine Pearlwort, is a small perennial herb in the Caryophyllaceae family. It is native to the circumboreal region, including Greenland, Labrador, Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Yukon, and parts of Europe and Asia. The plant typically grows in subalpine and alpine environments and other mountainous habitats at lower elevations. It features a slender or threadlike stem, linear leaves 1 to 2 cm long, and a solitary flower with five sepals and five small white petals.

Description

Sagina saginoides is a low-growing herb with a circumboreal distribution. It is commonly found in high-altitude and cold-climate regions, often in rocky or mountainous terrain. The plant's stems are slender and may grow decumbent or erect, sometimes forming small clumps. Leaves are narrow and linear, measuring 1 to 2 cm in length. The flowers are small, with five white petals and five sepals, arranged in a solitary inflorescence. This species was first described in 1882 and is adapted to thrive in subalpine and alpine environments.
