alpine delphinium
Delphinium elatum L.

Delphinium elatum, known as alpine delphinium, is a flowering plant in the Ranunculaceae family. It is a perennial herb native to temperate regions of Asia and Europe, characterized by deeply divided leaves and tall spikes of blue or purple flowers that bloom in summer. It can reach heights of up to 1.8 meters.
Description
Delphinium elatum (L.) is a member of the genus Delphinium in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It is found in regions such as British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and others in North America, as well as in parts of Europe and Asia. The species was first described in 1753. Taxonomic discussions have included proposals for the conservation of the genus Delphinium with D. elatum as the conserved type, though such proposals have not been universally accepted. A specimen in UPS was selected as lectotype, but earlier choices by Munz were not addressed in the proposal. Taxonomic evaluations by Warnock and the Committee for Spermatophyta remain relevant in ongoing discussions of the genus.
