Geum rossii, known as alpine avens, is a flowering plant in the Rosaceae family. It is native to North America, with a distribution that includes northern Canada, the western United States, and high-latitude and high-elevation regions such as the Arctic and alpine climates. The species is divided into three varieties, one of which, var. depressum, is found only in Washington's Wenatchee Mountains.

Description

Geum rossii is a member of the rose family (Rosaceae) and is commonly called alpine avens. It is native to North America, where it is found in Greenland, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kamchatka, Magadan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The plant thrives in high-latitude and high-elevation habitats, including Arctic and alpine environments. Three varieties are recognized, with var. depressum being endemic to the Wenatchee Mountains in Washington.
