Allocasuarina corniculata is a flowering plant species in the Casuarinaceae family, native to the south-west of Western Australia. It is an erect to spreading shrub with branchlets and scale-like leaves arranged in whorls of six to eleven. The plant produces fruiting cones 8–15 mm long, containing winged seeds (samaras) 3–4 mm in length. It is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers are on separate plants.
Description
This species belongs to the genus Allocasuarina and was described by L.A.S. Johnson in 1982. It is found exclusively in Western Australia and is characterized by its shrub-like growth form. The leaves are reduced to scale-like structures, and the reproductive structures include cones that enclose the seeds. Allocasuarina corniculata is part of a family of plants known for their needle-like foliage and woody cones.
