Alnus cordata, the Italian alder, is a tree or shrub in the Betulaceae family, native to the southern Apennine Mountains and the north-eastern mountains of Corsica. It has been introduced to Sicily, Sardinia, and more recently to Central-Northern Italy, other European countries, and beyond, where it has become naturalised.

Description

Alnus cordata (Loisel.) Duby is a member of the Betulaceae family and is native to the southern Apennine Mountains and the north-eastern mountains of Corsica. It has been introduced to several regions, including Sicily, Sardinia, and parts of Central-Northern Italy, as well as other European and non-European countries, where it has established itself in the wild. The species was first published in 1828 and is commonly known as Alder of Corsica. It is found in various locations, including the Açores, North America, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and other parts of Europe.
