Annickia affinis is a tree species in the Annonaceae family, native to Central and West Africa. It grows up to 30 m tall and is commonly known as African yellow wood. The tree is used in traditional medicine for treating various ailments. It is sometimes confused with Annickia chlorantha, and both have been historically referred to as Enantia chlorantha.
Description
Annickia affinis is a tree reaching 3–30 m in height, with a diameter at breast height of 3–50 cm. The bark is yellow when cut. Young branches are sparsely pubescent, while older branches are glabrous. Leaves are elliptic to obovate, 3.5–26 cm long, with a coriaceous to subcoriaceous texture. The tree is bisexual, with solitary flowers on ramiflorous inflorescences. The species is found in Cameroon, Congo, Nigeria, Zaïre, and Cabinda. It is used in traditional medicine and is sometimes mistaken for Annickia chlorantha.
