This grass is widely distributed across multiple regions, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the United States, South Africa, and parts of Europe, Asia, and South America.

Cynodon transvaalensis is a member of the Poaceae family, commonly referred to as the grass family. It is native to various regions and has been documented in GR, MG, AU, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the 48 contiguous United States, Alabama, California, Cape Provinces, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Florida, Free State, Greece, Iowa, Iran, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho, and other locations. The species was first published in 1921 by Burtt Davy. It is known by the common name African Bermuda Grass in English and is recognized for its presence in diverse geographical areas.
