Fraxinus xanthoxyloides, known as Afghan Ash or Algerian Ash, is a species of ash tree within the Oleaceae family. It is native to regions spanning from Morocco to China, with a distribution including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tibet, and the West Himalaya. First described in 1844, the species was initially classified under different names by some authorities, with African specimens once considered a separate species, Fraxinus dimorpha.
Description
Fraxinus xanthoxyloides is a member of the Oleaceae family and is commonly referred to as Afghan Ash or Algerian Ash. Its natural range extends from Morocco in the west to China in the east, with documented presence in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tibet, and the West Himalaya. The species was first published in 1844 under the authorship (G.Don) Wall. ex A.DC. Earlier classifications sometimes treated the African populations as a distinct species, Fraxinus dimorpha.
