Acanthocephalus amplexifolius is a species in the Asteraceae family, native to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It is an annual herb with glabrous surfaces, erect flowering stems, and leaves that are oblong-obovate or obovate with dentate margins. The plant is characterized by green, hispid inner involucral bracts and achenes that are cylindrical, smooth, and ribbed with a filiform beak.

Description

Acanthocephalus amplexifolius is an annual herb with glabrous surfaces. The flowering stems are erect and weakly branched. Rosette leaves are oblong-obovate or obovate, with dentate margins and a petiole-like base. Cauline leaves are few, obovate, oblong-obovate, or oblong-ovate, with sinuate-dentate, dentate, or subentire margins. The outer involucral bracts are narrowly ovate, while the inner ones are green, hispid, and have a minutely ciliate margin at the apex. The outer achenes are ovoid and somewhat curved with wrinkles, while the inner achenes are cylindrical, almost smooth, with longitudinal ribs and a filiform beak. This species is native to Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
